Why Gotham

Our Story

Gotham was founded in 1997 with a simple idea: Curiosity leads to discovery.

Built on industry expertise and a consultant's mindset, Gotham began with one goal: helping organizations solve complex problems and uncover opportunities others had overlooked.

From the very beginning, our approach was rooted in asking better questions, challenging assumptions, and finding smarter, more efficient ways to work.

The company's story began with our founder, Danya. After years of working in healthcare consulting, she found herself raising three young children while facing a daily two-hour-plus commute into the city. Determined to continue doing the work she loved without sacrificing time with her family, she set out to build something different.

Known for her ability to identify new revenue opportunities and streamline operations for clients, Danya launched a small consulting practice that would later become Gotham.

With just one employee, Gotham focused on projects that could be managed internally while building a reputation for solving the kinds of problems others overlooked. Those early clients gave the firm the opportunity to test new ideas, and in 1998, Gotham's mobility practice was born after helping a large law firm reduce its AT&T wireless costs by 48% within three months.

That success reinforced something Danya had long believed: organizations needed an independent advocate—someone who understood their operations, could identify hidden opportunities for savings, and wasn't afraid to challenge the status quo.

What began as a consulting firm serving healthcare and not-for-profit organizations quickly expanded through word of mouth. As clients experienced measurable results, Gotham's work grew across government, finance, legal, manufacturing, and private equity, always guided by the same commitment to uncovering value others had missed.

Early retrospective recovery engagements revealed just how much opportunity existed beneath the surface. As technology rapidly evolved throughout the early 2000s, Gotham evolved alongside it, helping clients navigate increasingly complex telecommunications and technology environments while recovering significant dollars that would otherwise have remained undiscovered.

Over the past three decades, Gotham has recovered and refunded millions of dollars for clients while delivering both hard-dollar savings and meaningful operational efficiencies through improved resource utilization and FTE optimization.

Some of those early engagements transformed far more than budgets. One project recovered nearly $4 million and ultimately led to the deployment of the first IP contact center in the United States—demonstrating that strategic cost optimization could also become a catalyst for innovation.

From the beginning, Gotham was built with people in mind. The company was created not only to serve clients but also to create meaningful careers that supported families. Many of Gotham's earliest employees were women seeking flexible work arrangements, establishing a culture built on trust, opportunity, and long-term relationships that continues today.

The Gotham name was inspired by our founder's family's love of the 1970s Batman television series. Bruce Wayne's commitment to protecting Gotham City embodied the resilience, integrity, and determination that continue to define the company. At the same time, the name reflects our deep connection to the city where Gotham was founded and the spirit of rising above challenges in pursuit of better outcomes.

Today, nearly three decades later, Gotham remains guided by the same principle that inspired its founding: curiosity leads to discovery.

Whether recovering costs, optimizing technology, or solving complex operational challenges, we continue to help organizations uncover opportunities others don't see and deliver lasting value for the people they serve.
